Pastor Carlos Ortiz
Founder/CEO of Faith Pleases God Church
On Saturday evening, August
5, 2000, Carlos Ortiz Sr., Pastor of Faith Pleases God Church and Founder of Family Television Network, leaned back, declared
"I'm going home" and instantly went to be with Lord. Pastor
Ortiz packed more into his 56 years of life on this earth than humanly
possible, because with God, all things ARE possible.
Carlos Ortiz was born in Aguadilla,
Puerto Rico and was raised in New York City where he fought in a rival
gang to that of Nicki Cruz. God dramatically saved him and called him
into the ministry when he was a long-haul trucker in 1973. He was an Evangelist
for 15 years before he began pastoring Faith Pleases God Church in 1988.
This growing church of over 1000 families now reaches the entire Spanish-speaking
world through its many television Networks. Pastor Ortiz pioneered several areas of the television industry, opening
the door to media ownership for many Hispanics. He was the first in the
U.S. to research and secure a non-commercial, educational TV station construction
permit (KLUJ TV 44 in Harlingen) to preach the Gospel. He was the founder
and president of Agape TV Media, an informational ministry encompassing
all aspects of Christian Television. Through FPG Church, Pastor Ortiz
recently built radio station 90.7 FM, which serves the mid Valley area
and will be repeated via satellite throughout the United States.
The FPG television
program was seen over a growing network of television stations, satellites and cable systems, covering the US, Canada, the Caribbean,
Mexico, Central America, parts of South America and 101 nations of Europe
and West Africa. La Familia Television Network reaches the third largest
Hispanic market in the United States, with local Valley stations: Channel
30 in La Feria/Harlingen and channels 28, 32, and 67 in the McAllen/Edinburg
area.
In the events before and surrounding the passing of Pastor Carlos, God
has made it evident that just as an Apostle begins a work, equips the people to carry
it out, and then moved on to a new work, Pastor Carlos has established
the ministry on a solid foundation, equipped the people with a vision
and the faith to carry it out, and in God's perfect timing has moved on
to "new ground," under the direct supervision of the Pastor,
our Lord Jesus Christ. Pastor Ortiz' vision to reach the 650 million Hispanics
worldwide with the Gospel of Jesus Christ continues on as a living legacy
under the leadership of Founding Co-Pastor Aracelis Ortiz and Senior Pastor
Clark Ortiz of this growing congregation. Faith Pleases God Church now
embarks upon its most exciting and productive phase of faith and soul
winning, with the realization that the vision Pastor Carlos began through
his faith, will be carried on to fulfillment through theirs.
Pastor Ortiz is survived by his wife, Pastor Aracelis Ortiz, four sons-
Carlos Jr., Pastor Clark Ortiz, Kevin Ortiz, and Mark Eleven Twenty Three Antonio Ortiz,
one daughter- Julie Mejia, four brothers- Juan Raymond, Anibal, Hector, one sister-
Martha Pena, ten grandchildren, Mother-in-law Julia Torres, Sister-in-law Juana McCavera,
Sister-in-law Minnie Jacobson, and Brother-in-law Angel Louis Torres.
