Fourteen Scriptures to Pray Over My Children

Repetitive confession allows the Word of God to become established inside of your inner spirit Heb. 13:15, Heb. 13:5). As a result of speaking and confessing the Word of God, you will experience an increased presence of boldness, confidence, rest, joy, peace, and expectancy (Prov. 28:1, Heb. 5:4, Ps. 62:5)!

Pastor Tommy Burchfield has used the following scriptures over his three children as well as the countless thousands of children and teenagers that he has prayed over as a minister for over 20 years. [Adapted from Fourteen Scriptures to Pray over my children, BMI Publications, Columbus TX 78934)

1. Psalm 4:3

“But know that the Lord has set apart for Himself him who is godly; The Lord will hear when I call to Him.”

I confess according to Psalm 4:3 that my children have been set apart to serve God. My children will not serve the devil. My children will not serve and live the way of the world. They will walk with God! Love God! Serve God! Please God! And they will obey God and God’s Word.

2. Psalm 145:4

“One generation shall praise your works to another, and shall declare Your mighty acts.”

I confess according to Psalm 145:4 that one generation can praise the works of God to another and I am declaring that the presence of God upon my life can be upon my children’s lives. A “generational anointing” can be imparted upon my children. What God has done for me, He will do for my children as well.

3. Nehemiah 2:8

“...And the king granted them to me according to the good hand of my God upon me.”

I declare according to Nehemiah 2:8 that the good hand of God is upon my children. (God’s hand in the Bible represents God’s authority.) God’s authority is over my children: the authority of goodness, kindness, meekness, gentleness, patience, peace, and joy. My children live under the authority of the kingdom of God and not under the authority of the kingdom of darkness.

4. Isaiah 44:3

“For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants and my blessing on your offspring.”

According to Isaiah 44:3, God’s blessings are upon me and my family. God’s provision finds me and my children like streams and rivers. God’s Spirit is covering my children like the sky covers the earth. Blessings from God are upon me and they are upon my children.

5. Matthew 5:6

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.”

I confess according to Matthew 5:6 that blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness. I declare boldly that my children have a hunger for God and the things of God. My children love God’s Word. They love to pray. My children have a heart turned toward the things of God.

6. Jeremiah 29:11

“‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward me, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

I confess according to Jeremiah 29:11 that God has a plan for my children that will bring only joy and hope! My children will find, follow, and flow in the perfect will of God. Only God’s best will touch them. God’s divine plan will be accomplished for my children.

7. Psalm 37:23

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way.”

I declare according to Psalm 37:23 that the steps of my children are ordered by the Lord. Each and every day, my children will walk in the footsteps that Jesus Christ wants them to walk.

8. Luke 2:52

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.”

According to Luke 2:52, my children are growing in wisdom and favor with God and man. My children are developing in social skills, growing in daily judgment and are clothed with favor from upon high.

9. Isaiah 10:27

“It shall come to pass in that day that his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing.”

I confess according to Isaiah 10:27 that my children walk in and under the anointing of God. God’s presence is always upon my children and the angels of God are always near them. The power of God is daily and continually flowing in and through my children.

10. Colossians 2:2

“That their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ.”

I declare according to Colossians 2:2 that my children are being knit by the Spirit of God to Godly friends and relationships. I confess today that my children will marry the person God has for them. They will go to school with the right children, play with the right children, talk to the right children, and continue to build relationships with only Godly children.

11. John 10:4

“And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.”

I confess according to John 10:4 that my children know the voice of the Good Shepherd and do not listen to the voice of the stranger. I declare today that my children hear and recognize the voice of God and will be obedient to His every whispered instruction.

12. Romans 5:17

“For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.”

I confess according to Romans 5:17 that my children are learning to reign and live in this life as kings. My children have a “King’s mentality” and God’s best is assigned to their life. My children will experience the royal life of God found in Jesus Christ.

13. 2 Corinthians 2:14

“Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place.”

I declare according to 2 Corinthians 2:14 that thanks be unto God who always causes my children to walk and live in victory! My children will have victory in every area of their life: victory over sin, victory over the devil, victory over the thoughts in their mind that are not of God, victory in their finances, their bodies, and their future.

14. Psalm 35:27

“...Let them say continually, Let the Lord be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”

According to Psalm 35:27, God delights to prosper His servants. I confess that my children will serve God all the days of their lives and honor His Word and be blessed all the days of their lives. No harm touches my children. I confess only blessings upon my children and that blessings are being sent to them each and every day by the love of God.

HOW CONFESSION WORKS

Me might have a thought, “Tommy, do me really believe that speaking these scriptures out loud every day over my child is really going to make a difference?” My answer to me is candidly and unmistakably Yes! Yes! Yes! And Yes!

Before I leave you, I want to show you two scriptures. They explain scripturally how confession actually works. I feel it is very important for you to understand this as you begin your own daily confessions for your family.

Matthew 12:34

“For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”

Let me explain what the true meaning of this scripture implies. What comes out of your mouth is the process by which what becomes established in your heart. What becomes established in your heart is what makes up your inner belief system (or your personal convictions). What you have established in your heart is what ultimately will become manifested in the realm of the natural.

As you speak God’s Word, the Holy Spirit begins to actually engrave the Word of God into the inner heart within you, which is where what you really believe exists. The more you speak, the more the process of ‘‘revelation knowledge’’ takes place concerning that particular truth (Rom. 10:17, Eph. 1:17).

2 Corinthians 4:13

“As they of old believed and spoke, even so what we believe we can speak.”

If me can visualize the cycle of speaking and believing me will have a better understanding of how confession works. Speaking what me believe is what causes me to believe what me believe. It is a process. It is a combination of the both. It brings results after the like manner.

It is so very important to speak, in faith, God’s Word out loud and God’s Word will then be released to perform and work (Heb. 4:2, Matt. 22:29, Heb. 13:5, Jer. 1:12).
